Enthusiasm, knowledge and God

Tuesday, June 17, 2008

This is my very first bible devotional, praise God for this. I really don’t know what I will be writing but with God speaking and God moving my fingers I’m making my way through this . I’ve been searching the net for a good software, bible devotional e-books etc. Then I found this verse which really caught my attention, or should I say God has directed me to see this verse.

Proverbs 19 1:3

1 It is better to be poor and honest  than to be foolish and tell lies.

2 Enthusiasm without knowledge is not good. If you act too quickly, you might make a mistake.

3 People’s own foolishness ruins their lives, but in their minds they blame the Lord.

I’ve reflected it to 2 different aspects of my life today, first, being my thoughts of resigning and finding a new job (change in career path) and the other one is my drive to become a better christian.

I’ll dwell first on the job related situation, currently i’ve been trying to find new job for a couple of reasons, getting tired of the hassle of commuting everyday from malolos to ortigas, comtemplating on the lost time due to travel which is almost 4 to 5 hrs a day, money wasted on my travel expenses, higher demand for financial income and me getting unhappy in my current job. With all these reasons i’ve been praying that God would grant my plea to give me a better job without all these burdens, but then through the verse, He spoke,  “If you act too quickly, you might make a mistake.”, and the realisation came, I am too much in a hurry to get what I wanted and not what God wants in his time.

“We must also remember not to be hasty in making major decisions. It is much easier not to get into a bad situation in the first place, than to get out of one. It sometimes takes years to correct mistakes that we make in haste. If we spent the time in prayer asking God for His wisdom in the major matters in this life, we could save ourselves much suffering. It is better to go slower than to go too fast. It is usually the devil that presses us to hurry up and make quick decisions that we will regret later. If we are moving too slow, at least we are still behind with God up ahead; however, if we go too fast, we can get ahead of God and then He is no longer leading us, as we are calling the shots.”

The next one was in the spiritual aspect. After some talks with my wife last night, I was very eager and enthusiastic on learning and hearing the voice of God. I’ve been thinking and was always thinking that I could do this by relying on the people around us, our MG and by regularly attending the church every sunday. But there is one very important thing that I have missed out, that my eagerness is nothing without learning and hearing the words from the Bible and from God himself. Now I wanted to put everything in God’s perspective and what God’s will shall be done. Taking everything a step at time has always been my mindset in everything I do, but it lacks one thing, letting God guide me in each and every step of the way.

 - Let God call the shots before you pull the trigger, ask first for God’s direction and 101%, you will never miss your target.
